The 2026 Post Middle Child’s Day Post (Mortem)

News & Notes from a Surprisingly Not-so-bad Day.
In case you didn’t know, Middle Child’s Day has come and gone. (If you didn’t, don’t feel bad.
Most of the radio stations I spoke with on Middle Child's Day had no idea either, like these calls with stations in IndianapolisVancouver, Louisville, Las Vegas, and Minneapolis. And the list goes on.) You also might be unaware that, unsurprisingly, we have to share Middle Child’s Day with a handful of other observances. But even so, it feels like we might be making some progress in getting the attention our namesake holiday so desperately needs.

“X” Marks the Spot
:
according to my AI friends, Vinyl Record Day typically outpaces National Middle Child Day on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) – but not this year! #MiddleChildDay came in first place, recording an estimated 45,000 to 60,000 posts, while #VinylRecordDay finished a distant second with just 15,000 to 22,000 posts. The rest of the pack was: 3rd place, #IBMPCDay; 4th Place, #BaseballFansDay; 5th place, #JulienneFriesDay. (NOTE: Julienne Fries Day probably suffered from some confusion with #FrenchFryDay which used to be on July 10 but was moved after Checker’s & Rally’s petitioned to have it celebrated on the second FRYday in July. Smart move. Maybe they should consider a merger? But hey, not my union, not my problem.) Of course, our work is still cut out for us. #AEWDynamite, a pro wrestling TV show, pinned down the top spot of the day with an estimated 3-8 million impressions.

Is Hallmark Feeling the Heat?: I’ve been posting Middle Child’s Day greeting cards for 13 years, and maybe Hallmark is starting to get the message. Sure, they just posted on social media, but I will not give up the fight until the day comes when you can walk into your local card store and ask where the Middle Child’s Day greeting cards are – without getting laughed out of the store.

Middle Child Challenge Extended: the deadline for your “Tales from The Middle” has been
extended indefinitely! Is that because I didn’t receive any? Possibly. Or maybe misery really doesn't love company. But I doubt it. Share your story here at the blog, on ‘X’ @midkidunion, e-mail it to middlechildchallenge@gmail.com, or call the I.M.C.U. hotline at 971-2-MIDDLE.

Baltimore, or Less: and then there’s this. A Baltimore morning show posted a clip of their “Lemme Tell You” segment where the topics were the Ravens, Love at First Sight, and… Middle Child’s Day!  I don’t know what actually aired, but check out what made it online.

          Yeah, that actually happened.
